Nicaragua expects to export lobster to European Union countries after the regional union gave its approval and the Central American country passed a quality-control inspection of fisheries goods.
Representatives of that community visited the seafood processing factories and checked the health precautions, according to Minister of Finance and Public Credit Ivan Acosta, before allowing the application for admission into that competitive market.
He cited the sector's yearly earnings of more than $200 million, citing a 27 percent growth in overseas sales last year, and predicting a gain in 2022 as a consequence of the development of more advantageous prices and improved production chain management.
According to Acosta, the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) government supports and develops small and medium-sized fishing businesses by providing technical help and equipment like sea engines, boats, vacuum flasks, and fishing gear.
Last year, the Ministry of Community, Cooperative, and Associative Family Economy aided 25 097 businessmen via training, community forestry, and resin management, particularly in the Northern Caribbean, according to the official.
