According to Trend via TASS, Kazakhstan's Almaty airport's suspension has been prolonged till the evening of January 7.

Previously, the airport was planned to resume operations by the afternoon of January 7.

On January 6, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated during a Security Council meeting that terrorist gangs in Almaty had taken an airfield and five planes, including one that was foreign. Later, the airport was liberated as a result of a particular operation.

The work of the Aktobe and Aktau airports was also halted due to the country's deteriorating situation.

Kazakhstan's government stated late January 4 that it would reinstate some price controls on liquefied petroleum gas, following unusual protests in Almaty in response to a steep increase in the fuel's price at the start of the year.

Due to price limitations, numerous Kazakhs have converted their cars to run on LPG, which is significantly cheaper than gasoline in Kazakhstan. However, the government argued that the low price was unsustainable and announced the lifting of the quotas on January 1.

After the price of gasoline increased, large demonstrations erupted in several parts of the country on January 2. Unless organizers file a notice in advance, public protests are banned. As the situation deteriorated, the government proclaimed a state of emergency.
