In a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Thursday, President Joe Biden recommended the use of diplomatic channels to ease tensions between the two countries.

Joe Biden confirmed that his country, together with its allies, will respond in the case of a Ukrainian invasion. Russia has denied any involvement in this matter.

The US president urged that talks continue in order to avert an invasion, according to press secretary Jen Psaki.

According to the spokeswoman, Joe Biden proposed starting next year to hold the bilateral Strategic Stability Dialogue, the NATO-Russia Council, and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

President Biden stated that significant progress in these talks can only be made through a de-escalation buildup.
