UN authorities are deeply concerned about the looting of three warehouses of the World Food Program (WFP) in El Fashar, North Darfur, the UN Secretary-General's spokesman reported Thursday.
The UN said in a statement that three WFP facilities had been robbed by unknown armed groups since December 28.
The World Food Programme has declared that operations in North Darfur will be suspended until further notice, affecting roughly two million people.
While no injuries or deaths have been reported, and all WFP workers are safe, the UNSG spokesperson stressed that humanitarian resources and teams must be protected from such horrific acts.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres strongly denounced ongoing looting and attacks on WFP warehouses, equipment, and supplies on Wednesday.
Guterres called on the Sudanese Government to restore order and ensure that property and assets of the former UN and African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur are used strictly for civilian use, in accordance with the agreement signed in March 2021.
