According to Al-Mayadeen, a pan-Arab TV program, the satellite photographs were given by Russia to Lebanon which would help explain what happened during the explosion at Beirut's port.

President Michel Aoun stated that the photographs taken before and after the explosion will offer investigators new information.

Previously, Lebanese authorities had demanded those photos from nations possessing cosmic wits, but all of them had refused to deliver them, including France and the United States.

Aoun requested the photographs from Russia in November, and Moscow provided them, as well as President Vladimir Putin's promise to assist in every manner necessary with the inquiry.

The explosion, which is considered the country's worst-ever peacetime tragedy, killed over 200 people, wounded approximately 6,500 others and damaged 300,000 dwellings.

The disaster occurred on August 4, 2020, and the investigation has been halted owing to legal concerns.
