Iconic Diego Maradona, an Argentine footballer, was accused of rape by a 37-year-old Cuban lady. According to AFP, the woman alleges she had an affair with the footballer 20 years ago when she was a juvenile.
"I was dazzled; he swayed me... However, after two months, everything began to shift," Alvarez Rego explained. Additionally, she claimed that the late footballer pressured her into cocaine use. "I adored him but despised him as well; I even considered suicide," she explained.
Rego said that Maradona imprisoned her at a Buenos Aires hotel in 2001. And that he assaulted her multiple times and raped her. Rego has not yet filed a lawsuit, but she is submitting evidence to an Argentine prosecutor this week in response to a complaint filed by an Argentine non-governmental organization, Foundation for Peace.
Rego, who resides in Miami, said she met the footballer in his forties while living in Cuba, and she was sixteen. At the age of 60, Maradona died after a heart attack. Rego, a mother of two, also claimed that Maradona, widely considered one of the greatest footballers of all time, pushed her to undergo breast augmentation surgery.
Maradona underwent brain surgery last year following decades of struggle with alcohol and drug abuse.
"I have done what I had to do, the rest I leave to the courts," Rego stated. She also said that she disclosed the abuse to counteract some of the claims being reported in the media in the run-up to his first death anniversary on November 25.
