Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgia's former president, concluded his 50-day hunger strike on Saturday after being transferred to a military hospital.

After being imprisoned on October 1 after returning from exile in Ukraine, Saakashvili went on a hunger strike, saying his imprisonment was political. He passed out on Thursday and was rushed to the hospital's intensive care unit.

Saakashvili's health may soon be jeopardized, according to Georgia's human rights commissioner. If he was not transported to an intensive care unit, he threatened death from heart failure, internal hemorrhage, and coma, according to a doctor who evaluated him.

Saakashvili was taken to a hospital in Gori, about 90 kilometers (55 miles) west of the capital Tbilisi, according to his lawyer Dito Sadzaglishvili.
