Mustafa al-Kadhimi, Iraq's prime minister, stated on Sunday that he knows who used drones to attack his residence and promised to hold those responsible accountable.
“We will pursue those who committed yesterday’s crime. We know them well, and we will expose them,” Kadhimi said after convening an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers in Baghdad.
With the deployment of military vehicles, security measures surrounding the Green Zone and other locations in Iraq's capital have been substantially up.
Two explosive-laden drones targeted Kadhimi's home in the heavily protected Green Zone early Sunday, but he was unharmed.
The incident came after severe upheaval in the country over recent election results, casting doubt on Kadhimi's tenure at the top of the political ladder.
Reports said the attack was carried out by Shiite militia forces close to Iran but no group has claimed responsibility so far.
