Portuguese left government falls after it fails the working class

After Socialist Prime Minister, Antonio Costa, had his 2022 Budget rejected by his parliamentary partners, Portugal is set to have new general elections.

The anti-capitalist Bloco de Esquerda (BE, Left Bloc) and the Democratic Unitary Coalition (CDU), which includes the Communist Party (PCP) and the Greens, are the two parties.

Costa is accused of moving to the right to appease the European Commission.

Some on the left have praised Costa's government as a shining example in comparison to the failures of Syriza, Podemos, and Jeremy Corbyn.
