Bloomberg reports that Myanmar's military administration plans to reopen its tourism sector to international visitors early next year to entice travelers from Asia as the Covid outbreak eases.
Last week, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Htay Aung stated that the government is banking on travel agreements with countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. He said that some people have already gone on vacation due to the recent removal of an inter-provincial travel prohibition and a bevy of traditional festivals.
Approximately 300,000 foreign visitors are expected in the first phase of the reopening, according to Htay Aung. Myanmar might later consider allowing travelers from Japan, China, and South Korea, he said.
