Three individuals were killed and a police officer was stabbed in the neck in an incident at a residence in Fort Smith, Arkansas, according to authorities.
Authorities said that the stabbed police officer is being recovered from the injuries.
According to Fort Smith Police Chief Danny Baker, a police officer was responding to a 911 caller who apparently heard yelling and screaming and then spotted a shirtless guy "assaulting a person on the ground."
According to Fort Smith Police Chief Danny Baker, a police officer was responding to a 911 caller who apparently heard yelling and screaming and then spotted a shirtless guy "assaulting a person on the ground."
When the police came, the shirtless father was striking his 15-year-old son in the head and face with a rock, and the cop ordered him to stop, Baker said to the reporters.
According to Baker, the officer fired two rounds, killing the guy. After being taken to the hospital, the 15-year-old was pronounced dead. According to the chief, he had several knife wounds as well as blunt force trauma.
Other police discovered a lady deceased inside the house with suspected stab wounds and indications of "an extraordinarily brutal attack."
A 5-year-old kid was also discovered in the house and is now being cared for by family, according to Baker.
"I do not doubt that our officers' swift action saved this young child's life," Baker said.
"We're all left scared, angry, frustrated, sometimes hopeless. No one believes in the sanctity of life more than the men and women of the Fort Smith Police Department. Each one of us is sworn to protect it at all costs. So, it hurts us as much as it does each of you when an outcome like this is unavoidable," Baker said.
"I'm thankful for officers who are willing to put their lives on the line when evil threatens our community. I'm thankful for the medical team, who took care of our officer. And I'm thankful for our community, which always pulls together when tragedy strikes. My heart goes out to all those who have been impacted by this terrible event. Please pray for all of us."
