According to the Israeli army, Israel's aerial defense system intercepted a rocket fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip on Saturday night.

The rocket triggered sirens in Sderot and the Sha'ar HaNegev regional council in southern Israel.

In a statement, an Israeli military spokeswoman said, "One launch from the Gaza Strip has been identified and intercepted,"

According to the army, Israeli war jets and attack helicopters hit a military installation, a storage site, and a military compound belonging to Gaza's ruling Hamas overnight.

According to the army, the property was used as a concrete production plant for building cross-border tunnels.

According to the IDF, the operation was "a response" to a missile fired from Gaza at southern Israel earlier on Friday night.

Both missiles were extensively reported in Israeli media to respond to the detention of four Palestinian prisoner escapees on Friday and Saturday.

The four are among six Palestinians who escaped from a maximum-security jail in northern Israel on Monday, with the other two remaining on the loose.
