According to Al Jazeera, which cited a Taliban source, the Taliban has initiated a military campaign in the Afghan province of Panjshir after negotiations with resistance troops led by Ahmad Massoud apparently failed.
The resistance groups had previously stated that they would continue to fight the Taliban despite the failure of their negotiations.
According to reports, the Taliban offered the resistance forces one or two seats in the government they were attempting to build, but the resistance declined.
Taliban spokesperson Mohammad Naeem told Sputnik that the organization would not capture Panjshir by force, disputing media claims that the resistance's commanders had called the talks a failure and that the Taliban were ready to invade the province by force.
The only Afghan province that has not fallen to the Taliban is Panjshir, which is located northeast of Kabul. Ahmad Massoud, the leader of the resistance forces, has promised to quit fighting the Taliban if they grant freedom and equality to all residents and build an inclusive government.
