According to Saudi officials, at least eight people were injured in Houthi drone raids on Saudi Arabia's Abha airport on Monday, which also damaged a civilian jet.

Earlier this week, the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthi organization in Yemen announced that it had intercepted a Houthi drone aimed at Abha International Airport.

According to the coalition, shrapnel was spread near the airport.

A second armed drone was intercepted, according to state television Ekhbaria, but debris injured eight people and damaged a civilian airliner within the airport.

One person was in critical condition, according to Ahmed al-Qahtani, the airport's general manager, and all of the injured were treated at a local hospital.

“No flights have been canceled at this airport. For a few minutes, or perhaps half an hour, we put the flights on hold for security reasons,” Qahatani said.

Reporters on the site saw shattered glass, damage to the terminal's ceilings and holes in a state-owned Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) Airbus A320 parked on the tarmac.

Travelers waited in line to check-in for flights to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia's capital, and other places.

The Houthis have not claimed credit for the attack, but the Iran-aligned organization has a history of firing drones and missiles at Saudi Arabia.

Following the airport attack, the group's propaganda reported more than 20 bombings by coalition jets on numerous Houthi-held Yemeni provinces. Drones and missile launchers were among the targets, according to the coalition.

In 2015, the Saudi-led military coalition intervened in Yemen, helping forces loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's deposed government in their fight against the Houthis.
