A day before the deadline for US forces to leave Afghanistan comes to an end, numerous rockets were launched towards Kabul's international airport.
The White House confirmed the incident and stated that the airport's evacuation procedures were not obstructed, as well as that US President Joe Biden was updated on the latest rocket strike on the Hamid Karzai Airport in Kabul on Monday morning.
Some of the missiles were intercepted by a missile defense system, according to a US official who spoke to Reuters.
The incident came a day after US forces launched their second drone strike in Afghanistan, following a suicide bombing at the airport on Thursday that killed almost 200 people. Among those dead were at least 13 US troops.
The US claimed that the latest drone strike in Kabul was intended to target suicide bombers, but media sources say that many children were killed in the event, which also resulted in the destruction of a car, supposedly filled with explosives.
