Bob Dylan is accused of abusing a 12-year-old girl named J.C in the 1960s, according to court filings, and is facing a lawsuit for assault, abuse, false detention, and infliction of emotional distress.
He allegedly plied the girl with drugs and booze before sexually abusing her in his apartment at New York's Hotel Chelsea in 1965, according to the civil lawsuit filed on Friday.
He allegedly used "drugs, alcohol, and threats of physical violence," leaving her "emotionally scarred and psychologically damaged to this day," according to reports.
Bob Dylan's representative has disputed the allegations.
In her 13-page lawsuit, the purported victim says that the alleged abuse has caused her to seek long-term medical therapy.
The victim is said to have experienced "severe mental distress, anguish, humiliation, and embarrassment, as well as economic losses," according to court filings.
J.C., now 68, resides in Greenwich, Connecticut, which follows the New York legislation of the "lookback window," which allows sexual assault victims to file claims regardless of how long ago the claimed incident occurred.
Although the statute of limitations for her charges had passed, the New York Child Victims Act of 2019 permits survivors of childhood sexual assault to file claims until August 14, 2021.
The planned deadline for filing claims was January 14, 2021, however, it was extended because of the Covid-19 epidemic.
The woman is claimed to be suing the 80-year-old singer for unspecified damages and a jury trial.
A spokeswoman for Dylan has refuted the charges, telling The Mirror: “This 56-year-old claim is untrue and will be vigorously defended.”
The publication claims that the alleged abuse occurred on many occasions, with some of the instances allegedly occurring at the Chelsea Hotel.
For more than 60 years, Bob Dylan, whose full name is Robert Allen Zimmerman, has been a popular musician all over the world.
In connection with the claims, the singer has not been arrested.
