The assassination of comedian Nazar Mohammad, better known by his stage name Khasha Zwan, in Afghanistan's Kandahar region has shocked the world.
According to local media, the comedian, who previously served in the Kandahar Police, was kidnapped from his residence on Thursday night and executed by unidentified gunmen.
The comedian's family has blamed the attack on the Taliban. The extremist Islamist group, on the other hand, has denied any connection.
This comes as the Taliban ramped up its attacks on Afghan security forces, claiming to have taken over about 70% of the country.
Families are fleeing war-torn districts in Kandhar province and seeking sanctuary in Afghan government-run refugee camps.
Syed Ahmad Sailab, a member of Parliament from Kandhar, told India Today TV that the Taliban has intensified attacks on Afghan soldiers in the entire Kandhar region following Eid celebrations and that those who have fled for protection are on the point of hunger. However, one of the migrant camps near Kandhar is providing them with food and medical attention.
"We have decided to provide breakfasts and meals two times for all the families who had to leave their villages to reach Kandahar," he explained.
