Rising tide of waste becomes a growing concern in Taiwan

As the online alternatives of food delivery become a way of life to curb the pandemic, the food packaging waste in Taiwan has become a growing concern.

The effort to curb plastic usage, especially single-use plastic, has suffered a setback following the increase in plastic waste that can be seen abundant on the island.

The self-governed Chinese island, governed by the Republic of China Government, has been filled with plastic wastes that begin to surge after restaurants and malls got replaced by online shopping and takeouts.

The recycling cycles are struggling to cope with the increase in plastic usage.

The amount of food packaging in Taipei has grown by 85% compared to the same period last year.

The trend threatens to undo years of hard work to control plastic wastage in the state.
