On Monday, a major blast at a factory on the outskirts of Thailand's capital Bangkok killed at least one person and injured 29 others, prompting thousands of people to flee amid worries of toxic gases and more explosions.
According to local accounts, the explosion occurred at 3 a.m. local time on Monday at a foam and plastic pallet manufacturing business just outside Bangkok, near the city's main Suvarnabhumi international airport.
The explosion jolted the international airport, according to witnesses, and debris was seen soaring into the air.
Firefighters used helicopters to put out the fires in the complex's difficult-to-reach parts.
“By mid-morning, the main blaze at the Ming Dih Chemical factory had been brought under control, but a massive tank containing the chemical styrene monomer continued to burn,” Chailit Suwant tokitpong, a local disaster prevention official, was cited as saying.
