In the opposition-held Idlib de-escalation zone in northern Syria, a strike by the Syrian regime and associated Iran-backed foreign terrorist groups killed at least three civilians, including a toddler, and injured eight others.
The regime violated a cease-fire agreement in the de-escalation zone by shelling six villages in southern Idlib, a village in western Hama, two villages in northern Latakia, and two locations in western Aleppo.
In a strike by regime forces in Afs village in southeastern Idlib, at least three people were killed, including a child, and five others were injured. According to Firas Khalifa, Idlib media head of the Syrian Civil Defense (White Helmets), three persons were wounded in the attack on Aleppo's Atarib district (AA).
Over the past three weeks, regime forces have attacked the Jabal al-Zawiya area of southern Idlib on a near-daily basis, in violation of a March 2020 ceasefire agreement between the regime's ally Russia and Turkey, which supports Syrian rebels.
The Syrian regime, on the other hand, has regularly broken the terms of the cease-fire, attacking inside the de-escalation zone on a regular basis.
3.5 million Syrian refugees live in Northwestern Syria, which is controlled by opposition Islamist rebels.
In their operations, the regime forces deployed Russian Krasnopol artillery munitions, which were often intended to destroy reinforced field facilities.
Last March, Russia used this type of projectile for the first time, targeting three Atarib Surgical Hospitals in Aleppo's western countryside, killing eight civilians, including a woman and a child, as well as causing significant material damage to the external hospital's building and a number of its clinics and facilities, forcing the hospital to close.
Syria's ten-year conflict has resulted in the deaths of half a million people and the displacement of half of the country's pre-war population of 23 million people. There are 5 million refugees living outside the nation.
