Kuwait's legislature passes the budget, but a political conflict persists.

On Tuesday, Kuwait's parliament adopted the state budget for 2021-22, but it failed to end a tense impasse between the government and the opposition, which has stymied economic reforms and delayed decision-making at the Gulf state's sovereign wealth fund.

After the vote, raucous scenes erupted, with 32 of the 63 politicians in attendance, including 50 elected members and government ministers, supporting it.

As opposition and pro-government MPs squabbled, parliamentary guards were called in to restore order.

The session went on despite opposition legislators once again occupying ministerial seats, a practice they have employed in recent weeks to underline their demand to question the prime minister on a variety of topics, including corruption.
