As per the votes counted so far, Ebrahim Raisi is set to become the Iranian president. Raisi, who is a former supreme court justice, will replace Hasan Rouhani as the country's executive.
Raisi holds ultra-conservative views and is said to be very close to the Iranian Supreme Leader.
Supreme Leader is the highest-ranked office in the country and Ali Khamenei has been in the post since 1986.
Raisi was a prosecutor for most of his life and had been appointed as Chief Justice in 2019 by Khamenei.
Raisi was popular in Iran for his prosecution of corrupt leaders.
Raisi has promised to ease unemployment and work to remove US sanctions that have contributed to economic hardship for ordinary Iranians and caused widespread discontent.
