A 54-year-old man was arrested in Oakland for allegedly assaulting California Governor Newsom, according to the Police.

The man from Berkley was taken into custody around 10:30 pm on Thursday, the Police said on Friday.

The man reportedly threw a water bottle at the governor as Newsom was entering Beastmode Barbershop and Graffiti Pizza in the Old Oakland neighborhood of the city during a press tour to support local small businesses.

According to California Highway Patrol, which provides security to the governor, "the governor was approached by an aggressive individual."

"Members of the governor's security detail removed the governor from the situation and the individual was arrested by CHP officers," CHP said in its statement.

The arrested individual has been booked into Santa Rita jail in Dublin, California for resisting an executive order and assaulting a public official.

Newsom didn't appear injured or disturbed by the alleged assault, later quipping that "different people have different ways of saying hello."

The suspect is reportedly homeless and going facing mental health conditions.
