Marvel fans react to the honesty of Scarlett Johansson about the Iron Man 2 portrayal of her character.
Although Johansson's nature Natasha Romanoff, AKA Black Widow, had been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since 2010, only one independent film is coming out in July.
Prior to the release, 36-year-old Johansson stated how, while in the Iron Man sequel to Jon Favreau, she thought the role was "sexualized."
"Things have obviously passed 10 years and I have a far more evolved knowledge of my own," Collider said.
"As a woman, you know, in my life, I am at a different place? And as a woman and not – perhaps not enough sometimes – I felt more forgiving of myself."
She went on: "I accept myself more, I believe. All of it's connected with the hyper-sexualization of this character, and while you look back on Iron Man 2, you know the character is so sexualized while it's funny and it has had many fantastic moments? She actually spoke of something like property, something or anything - like a**, basically."
Long-standing Marvel fans replied to the statements of Johansson and praised her for her openness in her ideas on character and development.
"Yes, it's 100%! I always had been overwhelmed with it, particularly with the scene where Nick Fury holds her far-sighted. She is as serious as she should have always been now, I'm really delighted," stated one fan.
Another added: "This is far better than pretending that things never happened to Iron Man 2. She owned other people's past errors for her character and understood that this should not be done."
Black Widow was originally scheduled to be released in May 2020, but the epidemic caused the picture to undergo frequent delays.
The Prequel will be simultaneously released for premium fees in some cinemas and at Disney Plus.
