The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has provided $300,000 humanitarian aid to an UN-led initiative for Myanmar which aims to seek $276 million to help Myanmar, where hundreds of people have died and thousands have been injured after a military coup and brutal suppression by the regime forces.
The donation was received on the 24th of May according to the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The financial tracking of the OCHA showed that North Korea had contributed to aid Myanmar.
This is the first United Nations Humanitarian aid by DPRK after Kim Jong-Un become supreme leader in the year 2011.
Previous UN Aid by DPRK dates back to 2005 when the country donated $150,000 for Indonesia, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Maldives, and Sri Lanka - all of which were hit by a devastating tsunami in December 2004.
