In an Instagram message from the hospital on Tuesday, Christian Eriksen, the Danish football star who fainted on the pitch during his country's opening Euro 2020 game, said he was doing "great."
"Under the circumstances, I'm fine. I still have to go through some tests at the hospital, but I'm in good spirits" he wrote beside a photo of himself lying in bed, smiling and giving a thumbs-up.
The 29-year-old Inter Milan midfielder slumped on the field in the 43rd minute of Denmark's Group B encounter against Finland in Copenhagen on Saturday, shocking the sporting world and beyond.
Medical staff performed CPR on him while he lay motionless on the field for around 15 minutes before he was dragged off and sent to the hospital.
It was later determined that he had died of heart arrest.
"Thank you very much for your lovely and inspiring greetings and messages from all over the world. It means a lot to my family and me "In Tuesday's message, he wrote:
"Now I'll be rooting for the Danish boys in their upcoming bouts. Play for the entire country of Denmark."
