Life's not better for the Palestinians, despite the cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

In the capital city of Palestine, occupied East Jerusalem, at least 23 Palestinians were injured as the police cracked down on the runners who were running to display solidarity with the Palestinians against the forced expulsion.

The Israeli Police fired stun grenades and tear gas at the event in which hundreds of runners had participated. The event on Friday began in Sheikh Jarrah and ended 3.5km (2 miles) away in Silwan. Dozens of Palestinians living in the two neighborhoods face the threat of losing their homes to Israeli settlers.

The participants of the event were wearing white T-shirts with “7,850” printed on them, representing the number of people activists say are facing forced expulsion in the city.

Al Jazeera quoted its correspondent at East Jerusalem, Hoda Abdel Hamid saying, “The young people were simply singing and cheering and were happy that they had done a marathon.”

On social media, people posted videos of Israeli forces beating protesters.

One of the runners, Jalal Abu Khater, posted images of his bruised leg and tweeted: “I was beaten six times, attacked by Israeli forces, for running in my ancestral town & city.”
