Joe Biden has signed an executive order prohibiting American corporations from investing in dozens of Chinese companies allegedly involved in defense or surveillance technology.
The US Treasury will enforce and update the new ban list of around 59 corporations on a "rolling basis" in a step that his administration claims will broaden the scope of a legally defective Trump-era directive.
It also prohibits the purchase or sale of publicly listed securities in target businesses, and it replaces an earlier list issued by the Defense Department, according to senior administration officials.
