The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) denied on Monday that the Gaza Strip's rehabilitation operation is linked to a prisoner swap agreement with Israel.
Egyptian security director Abbas Kamel came in the Gaza Strip on Monday through Israel's Erez Crossing point to have discussions with leaders of Palestinian factions, including Hamas.
At the conclusion of a meeting with Kamel, Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas leader, told reporters that Hamas officials addressed the cease-fire with Israel and the Gaza Strip reconstruction effort with the Egyptian security delegation.
According to Palestinian sources close to Hamas who spoke on the condition of anonymity, Kamel discussed a prospective prisoner swap arrangement with Israel with the movement's commander.
According to the sources, Kamel, who met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Sunday, brought an Israeli message about the missing Israelis in Gaza.
"The question of a prisoner exchange with the occupation (Israel) is a separate matter that we will never tolerate being linked to the problem of Gaza Strip rehabilitation," al-Hayya added.
Meanwhile, Hamas' deputy foreign affairs leader, Moussa Abu Marzouk, tweeted that the organisation denies any relation between the Gaza Strip's rehabilitation and the release of Israelis jailed in the enclave.
