23-year-old tennis star Naomi Osaka withdraws herself from the French Open saying she is taking leave of absence from the sports.
The announcement came after she missed the mandatory media availability and was fined $15,000 by the French Open, warning her of the future consequences.
Osaka is currently ranked number two on women's ranking and is considered one of the future stars.
Osaka said she has been dealing with Mental health issues since her rise to fame 2014 US Open victory. Osaka stated that she “never wanted to be a distraction” and that she was set to “take some time away from the court” with no set date for her return.
Tennis fans — and sports fans overall — rallied around Osaka’s open and honest announcement, lauding the 23-year-old for bringing mental health to the forefront of the conversation.
