Japan is extending the coronavirus emergency in the different parts of the country including the capital Tokyo.
The coronavirus has not been slowing down in the country and the country is desperate to control the spread of the virus as the all-awaited Olympics is just 50 days away. The associated press reports that the extension in the emergency is much necessary as the people keep roaming in the streets of Tokyo and Osaka, where the Olympics are to be held.
Lifting the restriction would cause an instant rebound in the number of cases, Japan's Economy Revitalization Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura said. The current emergency which is in place in Capital Tokyo and nine other Metropolitan areas was to end next Monday.
Nishimura told reporters that the government's proposal to extend the emergency all for 20 more days, extending it to June 20 got preliminary approval from the experts ahead of an announcement on late Friday.
Olympic organizers have to decide around that date whether to allow any fans at all after overseas spectators were banned months ago. A plan to prioritize vaccinations for Japanese athletes also is being delayed to around that time, according to media reports.
