After Kevin Clark, who portrayed drummer Freddy in the smash 2003 film as a 13-year-old, was murdered in a car accident on Wednesday, May 26, School of Rock star Jack Black was among many paying tribute to him.
Clark, 32, was hit by a car while cycling late at night in the Avondale neighborhood of Chicago, according to the Chicago Sun Times, and the car driver was handed many fines.
On social media, Black shared a photo of himself with Clark from the film with a more recent snapshot, writing, "Devastating news." Kevin is no longer with us. It was far too soon. A lovely soul. There are so many wonderful recollections. I was heartbroken. I'm sending my heartfelt condolences to his family and the entire School of Rock community.”
The Chicago Sun Times reported that Clark's mother Allison Clark had just joined a new band. “He was a music buff. He's just a kid with a lot of potential. He has a golden heart.” She also said that when he auditioned for the film as a 12-year-old and won the role of drummer Freddy Jones, he had no intention of becoming an actor. School of Rock, directed by Richard Linklater, was a box office hit, but Clark chose to pursue a career as a professional musician rather than acting.
Miranda Cosgrove, who played Summer in School of Rock alongside Clark, also paid tribute to him on social media, writing, "Stunned and devastated by this news today." The world has lost an incredible soul. I'll never forget your spirit or how nice you were to me. All of the memories will stay with me forever. Kevin, you will always be missed.”
