On Friday, US Vice President Joe Biden vowed to assist in the organization of efforts to restore Gaza, saying that establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel is the "only solution" to the conflict.

Biden also said that he had ordered Israelis to end the "inter-communal war" in Jerusalem, a flashpoint area.

"There is no change in my determination, commitment to Israel's stability," he said, adding that "there will be no peace" until the region "unequivocally" recognizes Israel's presence.

The concept of a two-state solution, with an independent Palestinian state coexisting with Israel and Jerusalem as their joint capital, has been at the heart of decades of international diplomacy aimed at resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Donald Trump's administration has been chastised for being overtly pro-Israel and dismissing Palestinians.

Jared Kushner, Trump's strategist, and son-in-law devised a Mideast peace proposal that was billed as a two-state solution. However, the blueprint called for a Palestinian state with minimal autonomy and Israel to retain security control over it.

Palestinian leaders have flatly rejected the proposal.

On Friday, Biden insisted on a full-fledged two-state solution.

"There is no change in my commitment to Israel's defense, period, no shift, not at all," he said, according to AFP.

"But I'll tell you something: there has been a change. The shift is that a two-state solution is still needed. It's the only option, the only option "According to Biden.
