A giant iceberg sheared off from Antarctica and floated into the Weddell Sea, about the size of Manhattan but more than 70 times larger. According to the European Space Agency (ESA), it is now the world's biggest iceberg.

ESA said Wednesday that satellites from the Copernicus Sentinel-1 mission captured newly calved iceberg A-76. The iceberg's surface area is 1,668 square miles, with a length of 106 miles and a width of 15 miles, according to NASA.

The iceberg's name refers to the region where it first calved. The iceberg is the 76th to be tracked by the United States National Ice Center.
