Man kills himself after killing his wife and an infant son in India after lockdown rendered him jobless

During the current wave of coronavirus in India, not only patients and their families are suffering, but the surge, which has been complicated by lockdowns, is claiming the lives of daily wagers.

A man who had lost his job as a result of the new lockdown went to the point of killing his wife and their infant son before hanging himself.

The tragic incident occurred in the Kadamwak district of Maharashtra, on the outskirts of Pune.

The bodies of the deceased - Hanumantha Daryappa Shinde, 38, his wife Pragya, 28, and their infant son Shivtej - were recovered from their home on Sunday.

Daryappa A. Shinde, Shinde's father, filed a complaint with the Loni Kalbhor Police Station, according to Investigating Officer Bhagwat Shendge.

According to preliminary inquiries, the Shinde family was from Solapur and had recently relocated to Kadamwak in search of jobs.

They were living in a rented chawl and scraping by doing odd jobs around the area, which ceased after the most recent phases of lockdown were enforced.

Shinde strangled his wife, slit his son's throat, and then strangled himself with a dupatta from a fan around noon on Sunday, feeling depressed and powerless due to unemployment.

An autopsy has been ordered for the three bodies.
