He is one of the most well-known cast members of Netflix's most successful series.
Fans have been surprised to hear that Regé-Jean Page will not return for season two of the hit TV period drama Bridgerton.
“I WILL NOT HAVE IT,” singer Dionne Warwick wrote in response to the outpouring of support on social media.
Bridgerton drew 82 million viewers in its first month on Netflix, making it the platform's most successful original series.
Page, a British-Zimbabwean actor, played Simon, the Duke of Hastings, an eligible yet rebellious young bachelor in a reimagining of Regency-era London debutante balls.
His departure was announced in a memo from the show's fictional gossip columnist Lady Whistledown on Friday.
Page said, "It's been an absolute pleasure and a privilege."
'Simon's appearance onscreen will be missed, but he will always be a member of the Bridgerton family,' it said.
“Joining this family – the on-screen and off-screen connections with our cast, crew, and all of our amazing fans have been like nothing I could have ever imagined.”
