Gorkhali People's Liberation Font (Gorkha Janmukti Morcha) condemned the statements by India's ruling party leaders referring to the Indian-Gurkha citizens as "people from Nepal."
Font's president Binoy Tamang issued a statement condemning the words of BJP National General Secretary and Bengal in-charge.
At an event in Kurseong, a district in West Bengal BJP National Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said "the state and central government will work towards resolving issues of Nepal's 11 communities".
Gorkhas (Gorkhali) are the Nepali-speaking Indian natives. Due to their common language and culture with the Nepalese, they are often treated as foreigners inside their own country. Worse, people from Nepal are not treated very well in Indian big cities.
The Indian Gorkhalis are striving for Gorkhaland, a state that will legitimize their identity of being Indian. They also demand equal treatment from the state and the people.
Binoy Tamang referred to Vijayvargiya's comments as "yet another insult to the Gorkha Community."
He said, "The BJP to date hasn’t given anything to the Gorkha community, and but this remark has only added yet another insult to the Gorkha community from the BJP."
Shri S. S. Ahluwalia, the former BJP-MP from Darjeeling, also referred to the Gorkha community as people from Nepal.
Tamang said that many Gorkhas have laid their life for India.
Tamang asked for a sincere unconditional apology from BJP and its National security as soon as possible.
He added the BJP can't even distinguish who is from Nepal and is an Indian.
