At least 10 people were shot late Friday at two separate incidents in Virginia Beach.
Virginia Beach Police Department announced on early Saturday morning at around 1:15 local time that the department had been investigating a shooting incident with possibly life-threatening injuries.
“Large police presence at the oceanfront between 17th and 22nd St. Please avoid the area at this time,” Department said on Twitter.
The police department confirmed the death of two people and the shooting of eight more.
Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate at a press conference around 1:35 a.m. local time told reporters that authorities believe there were multiple separate incidents taking place near each other that first began about 11 p.m. local time.
The first shots were fired in the area of 20th Street and Atlantic Avenue in which at least eight people were injured.
Neudigate said that the second incident took place near the intersection of 20th Street and Pacific Avenue.
He also said an individual was confronted and deceased by the police in connection to the second incident. Neudigate said there was a second person who died who was “not part of the police intervention shooting,” and police do not believe that they were part of the first shooting incident either. Neudigate said the second death appeared to be from “a separate shooting incident that we’re still trying to piece together.”
