As per the reports by several mainstream media outlets, Iran has reportedly threatened to attack the United States Military Base in Washington DC.

According to a report by the Associated Press that communications intercepted by the National Security Agency (NSA) showed that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) discussed carrying out a “USS Cole-style attacks” on Fort McNair in January, referencing the 2000 suicide attack against the U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer in Yemen's Aden harbor that left 17 sailors dead.

Army has tightened its security around Fort McNair, which includes adding a 200-500 feet buffer zone from the channel.

Leaders in Washington DC have opposed the proposed changes as they would reduce access to the waterway, which runs parallel to the Potomac River.
