Officials announced they are imposing an emergency curfew on Miami beach effective from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m due to overwhelming crowds.
Blaming the "out-of-control" crowd, officials said that the curfew would be on effective Saturday nights in South Beach, one of the nation’s top party spots.
Although it is unclear how long the new restrictions will last, Interim City Manager Raul Aguila told the Miami Herald that he recommends keeping the rules in place through at least April 12.
Aguila said that the Brach is out of capacity and the crowd is uncontrollable.
"No pedestrians or vehicles will be allowed to enter the restricted area after 8 p.m. and all businesses in the vicinity must close," he added.
Local officials and businesses have struggled to balance courting tourists to boost the economy while doing so safely amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
