Elliot Page, star of the Umbrella Academy, claims that top surgery has totally changed his life.
In a new interview, the 34-year-old transgender actor described the operation, which includes removing breast tissue to give a more masculine look, as "life-changing."
Elliot told TIME Magazine that the operation has helped him to see himself in the mirror for the first time and has liberated him from the "total hell" of puberty.
"It has absolutely changed my life," they said.
Elliot is non-binary and uses he/him and they/them pronouns; however, TIME referred to him as a transgender male, and he referred to himself as a "person."
In December of last year, the Juno star came out as transgender.
The Netflix star wrote in his social media announcement: "I consider myself fortunate to be writing this. It's great to be here. It feels great to have arrived at this point in my life.
"I am extremely thankful to all of the great people who have helped me along the way.
"I can't even begin to describe how incredible it feels to actually love myself enough to follow my true self."
They went on to express gratitude to the trans community for their "courage, kindness, and never-ending efforts to make the world a more welcoming and compassionate environment."
Following the announcement, the star's legion of online fans rushed to their aid.
His wife, Emma Partner, said she was "so proud" of him, but the couple has since split up.
After three years of marriage, Elliot filed for divorce from Emma in January.
"We have the highest respect for each other and remain close friends," the two said in a joint statement.
Elliot went on to say that when he was nine years old, he realized he "wanted to be a child."
He told the publication that his mother, Martha, who is the daughter of a pastor, persuaded him to act like a girl because she believed she was "doing what was best" for her child by encouraging them to act in a certain way.
Elliot revealed that Martha is "completely supportive" of his decision to come out, saying, "She needs me to be who I am and supports me fully."
"It demonstrates how people really adjust."
In an emotional speech at the Human Rights Campaign's Time to Succeed conference for LGTBQ youth in 2014, Elliot came out openly as gay.
At the time, the actor expressed his hope that the news would assist those who were grappling with their sexuality.
