After years of battling to classify Uber drivers as workers, the company has finally agreed to reclassify the drivers in the UK as workers.
The company said on Tuesday, that it would reclassify its 70,000 workers in the UK as workers. This means the Uber driver will now receive the minimum wage, vacation pay, and a pension plan.
The UK Supreme Court made a landmark decision last month saying Uber drivers are entitled to more than what they are getting and ruled in favor of classifying them as Workers.
Uber drivers are currently classified as freelancers or self-employed. In such cases, drivers are not entitled to pay the minimum wage, have vacation pay or a pension plan.
Regulators across the world plan to have more protection for Uber Drivers to make it a 'real job.'
Uber argues that it is just a platform for the drivers to meet with the passengers. However, the British judges argued that the company acts like an employer rather than a platform.
