The Weeknd said," Grammy is corrupted." The Weeknd spoke bitterly that he would no longer submit his music to the Grammy Awards.
He told The New York Times newspaper, “Because of the secret committees, I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys.”
Abel Tesfaye going stage name by The Weeknd pointed the Recording Academy and their award show of being run by greasing the hands and called organizations to work transparent with how it makes nominations.
Abel also tweeted on his social media against the Grammy's saying, “The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency....”, where the Recording Academy chair and interim president Harvey Mason Jr.
responded saying he was "surprised" he wasn't recognized, as he blamed the lack of nominations on there being "fewer" to hand out "than the number of deserving artists".
Harvey added to his comments that he understood the reason for Abel's angriness about not being nominated also praised Abel's songs.
“His music this year was excellent, and his contributions to the music community and broader world are worthy of everyone’s admiration. Unfortunately, every year, there are fewer nominations than the number of deserving artists," Harvey said.
The Weeknd's critics against Grammy aren't the first. Previously, Zayn Malik had also tweeted saying "F**k the Grammys and everyone associated. Unless you shake hands and send gifts, there are no nomination considerations. Next year I'll send you a basket of confectionary."
Apart from this, the 2021 Grammy Awards are set to take place this Sunday (14.03.21).
