In his first primetime address to the nation after taking office, US president Joe Biden said that his administration will work on making vaccines available to all Americans by May 1.
The remarks came on the occasion of the anniversary of coronavirus being declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organization.
"Tonight, I'm announcing that I will direct all states, tribes, and territories to make all adults age 18 and older eligible to be vaccinated no later than May 1," Biden said in his address.
Biden said that his administration is on its way to innoculate more than a hundred million vaccine doses before 60 days of taking office.
Biden said that small gatherings will be possible before the independence celebrations in July if people continue to co-operate in controlling the Pandemic.
"I need you. I need you to get vaccinated when it's your turn. If we do all this ... by July the 4th, there's a good chance you, your families and friends, will be able to get together in your backyard or your neighborhood and have a cookout," Biden said.
Biden also said that the Pandemic is "far from over." He also stated that the restrictions could be reimposed if the COVID cases start to surge,
