After the Armenian Prime Minister struck a deal to end a ceasefire to end the war with neighboring Azerbaijan, he said that the military staged a coup attempt against him.

The Armenian Military’s general staff had demanded that the prime minister step down after months of protests over perceived defeat in the Karabakh-conflict with Azerbaijan.

The military General staff issued a statement calling the country’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to resign, which was signed by top military officials.

There have been protests in Armenia after a brief war with Azerbaijan last autumn. This week the protest escalated following the Prime minister's order to sack the deputy chief of the general staff.

There have been increasing demands for the existing PM to step down.
