According to Coolidge Police, a 19-year old in Arizona has been accused of faking his own kidnapping.

Brandon Soules admitted that he staged his own kidnapping to get out of work. He had been arrested on February 17, on charges of false reporting a misdemeanor, after he admitted to officers during an interview that he staged his own kidnapping.

Police said they responded to a scene where a man had his hands bound behind his back with a belt and a bandanna stuffed in his mouth. The man, who turned out to be Brandon, told officers that two masked men kidnapped him. He had said that he was knocked unconscious and driven around before eventually being dropped off near town’s water tower.

Soules had told the investigators that he believed he had been kidnapped because his father had hidden a large amount of money in the desert.

After police determined there was no hidden sum of money and he was confronted by the allegation of fabricating the story.

Coolidge Police Department said, “He made up the story as an excuse to get out of the work.”

According to The New York Times, Soules worked at the Tire factory, installing tires and driving around the area to pick up parts.
