The Republican Party of North Carolina plans to senator Richard Burr for voting to convict President Trump in his second impeachment trial.

The party spokesperson for North Carolina said that North Carolina's Republican Party will hold an emergency meeting Monday evening to decide if Senator Burr is to be censured.

Seven Republicans voted to impeach the former President Donald Trump alongside the fifty democrats, for inciting the insurrection on January 6 at the US Capitol. 

Members of the republican party committee in North Carolina have said they expect Senator Burr to be censured. 

Richard Burr's vote to impeach Trump was quite shocking as he had voted previously voted for the impeachment Trial being unconstitutional as Trump was no longer in office.

“When this process started, I believed that it was unconstitutional to impeach a president who was no longer in office. I still believe that to be the case. However, the Senate is an institution based on precedent, and given that the majority in the Senate voted to proceed with this trial, the question of constitutionality is now established precedent,” Burr said in a statement.

The Lousiana Republican Party has already censured Senator Bill Cassidy for voting to convict Trump.

The Louisiana GOP immediately voted to censure Senator Cassidy for his vote, just hours after the trial.
