United Nation's top court has said that it is ready to hear on sanctions reimposed by the US under Donald Trump's regime. The decision has prompted disappointment in Washington. which argues the decision is outside UN jurisdictions.

Iran alleges Donald Trump breached the 1955 friendship treaty between the two countries by pulling out of a 2015 nuclear deal.

Washington argued that the Hauge based International Court of Justice did not have jurisdiction and wanted the ICJ to throw the case. Washington also claimed that Iran Posed a grave threat to international security.

The Judge rejected all the objections made by the US.

ICJ President Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf said that the tribunal “finds consequently that it has jurisdiction…. to entertain the application filed by the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

Ned Price, the spokesperson for the US Department of State, said that in the next phase they will explain why Iran's claim has no merits.

This is the second victory for Iran in the case. Previously in 2018, the ICJ had ordered the US to release sanctions on humanitarian goods.
