Arsenal’s bad performance this season continued last night as they faced a 4-1 home defeat against Manchester City, advancing the opponents to the Carabao cup semis.

Manchester City, who had possession of the ball since the starting, scored the first goal in the third minute after Oleksandr Zinchenko assisted Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus a beautiful cross.

Arsenal, who played decent in times but was mostly struggling for possession equalised for the first goal after Gabriel Martinelli assisted Alexandre Lacazette which he converted into a header goal 31 minutes through the game. First half ended with 1 goal from both sides.

In the second half, Man City were back in charge. And in the 54th minute, a minor blunder from the Gunner keeper Alex Runarsson awarded City with another goal as he let in a seemingly easy free kick from Riyad Mahrez through his arms. After Fernandinho lifted the ball from over Runarsson and passed it to Phil Foden , the 20 years old midfielder didn’t waste the chance to score the third goal for Man City .

Then Aymeric Laporte headed in a cross from Foden to secure their victory in the quarter finals as the added more pressure to Arteta’s Arsenal who are in 15th position in the premier league table and facing the danger of relegation.

Before the game, Arteta had declared that he wanted to see "fighters" and not "victims". "I will focus on the fighters we have in the squad and the spirit we showed tonight against a really difficult opponent. I see a lot of fighters," he said.

In the remaining two fixtures of the Carabao cup quarter finals, Everton will welcome Manchester United and Stoke City will be hosting Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur.
