A Japanese sicko dubbed the "Twitter Killer" was sentenced to death by a district court in Tokyo on Tuesday for killing and dismembering nine individuals before being found to be living with their body parts.

Reuters reported that Takahiro Shiraishi, 30, was found guilty of killing, dismembering, and storing bodies in his apartment in the town of Zama in Kanagawa, on the outskirts of Tokyo.

The prosecution had argued that according to the Jiji news agency, Shiraishi contacted his victims via Twitter after they expressed suicidal thoughts.

According to the local outlet, which cited the indictment, Shiraishi invited them to his apartment using a handle that translates loosely as "hangman", promising to help them die.

Shiraishi's defense team argued that with their approval, he killed the victims, Kyodo News reported.

Judge Naokuni Yano ruled that the victims did not consent to the murder and that Shiraishi was mentally fit to be held accountable for the deaths of the victims.

From August to October 2017, Shiraishi strangled and mutilated eight women and one man, aged 15 to 26, according to the Japanese outlet, which added that he was also alleged to have sexually assaulted all of his female victims.

In October 2017, authorities investigating the disappearance of a young woman who turned out to be one of the victims uncovered the serial killings.

Officers visited the apartment in Shiraishi and discovered the body parts of the victims in cooling boxes and other storage containers covered with cat litter.

He recently pleaded guilty to heinous crimes.
